OT - way OT, silly, and desperate.

So sorry to start an OT in the middle of The Draft. While the Draft used to be our Super Bowl, now it is only to fill 2nd and 3rd team, so I forgive myself.

Past several days when I sign on this site with my Mac, the mouse has limited function (it only happens on this site). Wheel works, so up and down the page works, but the left click won't work. When I sign on with a Dell (same sign-on information), it works flawlessly. I tried 3 different mouses (mice?) with the Mac, all with the same result.

I need my Watercooler fix, so I took this problem to the IT guy at work. He didn't see anything wrong with the hardware, thought it might be a site issue ? So ..... wondering .... has anyone else had a problem of limited Mouse function on the site while using a Mac ? If so, any fixes ?

(Thank you for any insight - and if I can't respond, it only means I don't have my Dell with me.)

(iMac, if that makes a Dif)

But I need to fix this humanely ! I expected that, and some cheese jokes, too. Ha

I guess logically here could be hundreds, even thousands of Watercooler followers with the exact same problem....but if your Clicker ain't working, they can't get onto this thread to respond. I can almost hear their silent screams.

Nope, although I use an iPad most of the time.

I read the OBR from computers running MacOS, Windows, and Linux, usually on Firefox or Brave, and have not had the troubles that I'm sorry to read that you are having. I'll use my Mac a bit more this weekend while reading Browns draft results from the lads and see if I notice any mouse troubles. One of the disadvantages for Barry in the partnership with 247 is that they don't have the best website development going on and I can well imagine a problem like you have happening because of that. I just haven't seen it yet on my Mac.

I work in the code/web app space. I have never heard of this issue before. You can try opening the Developer Tools in the browser and looking at the Console. There might be some JavaScript issues.

All joking aside, please pardon the long winded preamble and rant.

You can skip the wall of text and go right to the bottom of this post for my direct reply to the OPs question.

    ——————< rant on >
I have somewhat of a commitment to Apple products. Namely an iPhone and also an iPad.

I moved on from Microsoft and its OS’s several years ago .

I am seriously weighing the thought of moving away from Apples iPhone next .

Don’t get me wrong , this is the 3rd or 4 th iPhone I have owned. They have served their intended purpose quite well. And then some. They are rugged and built to last.

I owned the last one for 7 years . The only reason I upgraded was because I lost it.

But the cost of iPhones is giving me pause when the time comes to upgrade again.

When it’s time for a new phone , I might go the android route.

Linux and open source products have made a lot of gains commercially over the last several decades. And the learning curves have decreased dramatically in understanding and getting productivity out of them. I use a Galaxy phone at work that the company supplies .And it has a lot of
functionality at a fraction of the cost for an iPhone.

Aside from the phone and an IPAD, I also use a Chromebook. It’s a little clunky but gets the job done for my purposes. And Google provides free and regular update downloads.

I play guitar as a pastime and want to eventually setup another home recording studio. To do so I’ll need a sound interface and recording software. I’m leaning towards getting one of the Apple laptops. Expensive or not, it seems like the way to go. I don’t see myself going back to Microsoft. But you never know.

My security is a little lacking. But I have some protection from threats via a modem firewall . As well I have my browsing settings set to medium high security.

Also don’t open emails or attachment unless I know the sender.

It’s not like I run around completely vulnerable to online threats. But when you come down to it , are we ever really safe from real or made up viruses or malware that are in the wild ?

No longer do I pay for Norton or their memory hogging software. And the hundreds of dollars a year in cost for the privilege to do so. And the freebie antivirus packages aren’t much better either.

Antivirus software companies make a living off our fears and paranoia. I refuse to be held hostage any longer.

The final straw for me was years ago when practically everyone with an online presence had their data breached from several Credit card clearing houses.

Norton was suppose to give me ( and anyone with a Norton account. ) a free year or two subscription to an identity shield software package . Despite being a longtime subscriber I never was able to get it . I never bothered calling customer service. The entire fiasco just turned me off .

    Mercifully I’ll end that rant.

    ————<end of rant/>————

As for the mouse issues with this site, I have none. Because I no longer use a mouse.

Touchpad, touchscreen and keyboard is how I navigate these days. Occasionally my devices will freeze up on the site. But simply closing the tab and opening a new one and reloading the site remedies that.
